Shake It!

(I wrote this post last week, but I can't get the video to post...it's a long story. Anyway, Larkin mentioned posting video to facebook a couple days ago and so last night I tried it and it worked. So, if you are on facebook, go on over the have a look, it's pretty funny!)

Ever since August could walk he has done this little shake thing. He just gets up randomly and shakes his little body. It used to be whenever he was really happy, but now it's just whenever and only if he feels like it. It's hard to get on video because it's so random and the first is always the best. When we ask him to do it again, it's just not the same.

Yesterday though, we caught him. It was Paige's birthday and so I had the camera out taking pictures of her opening presents. August went up to his Monster Truck and pressed the buttons to make the music come on. He's been doing this lately. Once the music starts he runs fast and jumps to a stop posing in some sort of cool "move." So, without him knowing, I switched on the video and caught him in action. Enjoy...we do almost daily!

Little Man

Now that Paige is in Kindergarten, August and I have a lot of time together. He loves to talk. He talks and talks and sometimes I get to say something too. The other day we were at Home Depot and were parked right by a big manhole. Here is our conversation.
A: What's that?
M: That's a manhole.
A: Huh?
M: A manhole.
A: Huh? (This is his favorite response, I'm still trying to decide if he really knows what it means, or he just knows he can say it after we say something.)
M: It's a manhole. It covers a big hole that people can go down.
A: I want to go down there.
M: Only a man can go down there. You are too little. You have to wait until you are bigger.
A: I want to be a man...(in a wishful voice.)

My little blue smurf

So, the last few days August has been getting quite creative.
He colored the hood of the van with crayons and all over the garage floor, colored the train table with pen, colored his hands with marker, etc.

Today, Paige came to tell me he had colored on his hands again. I thought great, but probably not a big deal. Well, this time it was a bit more color.

And, he got the table.

And he got the wall as he walked up to his timeout. And he got his face. And he got it all over the kitchen chair he had his timeout on.

And,
I thought that was all.
I cleaned him up as best I could
and then I took him in to change his diaper.
And,
this is what I found.
Wow August.

The Lawn Mowers

This picture was taken the first week in May.
August had just woken up from his nap and could hear someone out mowing the lawn.
When I told him it was his dad,
he RAN out to get his lawn mower and then
RAN into the backyard to help.
It was the cutest thing to see.

He wanted to be right next to his Dad the whole time.

I love boys! We are so lucky to have August (and Larkin) in our lives.

August in February

My little guy turned 2 years old yesterday.
We woke up to a freezing house, the igniter on the furnace had cracked during the night.
It was 57degrees inside, which for us, is practically freezing.
We made hot chocolate and August shivered through breakfast determined to eat his donuts. He said, "August's birthday, August's birthday over and over."

The furnace guy came and fixed the heat by 10:30 that morning, thank goodness for fast service, and the house started to feel a bit better. I watch a little boy and girl a couple times during the week and so they were with us that morning. Daxton and August had fun helping me make the cake. I think the beaters were a hit!

What cute little guys!

Later, after a long nap and the girls and Dad were home from school, we opened presents. August was hysterical. He wanted to stop and play with each new toy before moving on to the next. The girls had a hard time with this. They wanted him to get a move on it. They have different approaches when it comes to gift opening.
August ended up with way too much stuff, but he loves every single thing (except the shirt...he didn't even bother to finish opening that gift.)

August loves cars. He is pretty much obsessed with cars. It's pretty fun. So, it really wasn't too hard to decide what cake to make. A CAR CAKE. When he woke up from his nap and saw his cake, he was very interested in it. He sat at the table and looked at it and talked all about it and even had a small taste of it. He sat there and said over and over, "August's car cake. August's birthday, car cake, donut." It was funny to listen to. I think he really liked it.

This picture isn't the best quality, I cropped it way too much and then blew it up, but just look at that face! He was going to make sure every bit of that cake got from his spoon into his mouth!

It was a fun day and I think August knew something special was going on. We have had a few birthdays in the past few weeks, so he kind of got the hang of it and knew what to do.
We sure love you August.
